Dr. Olajide Basorun is a technocrat with deep expertise in the agricultural sector. Over the course of a distinguished career, he reached the pinnacle of the civil service in Lagos
State where he had the unique distinction of service as Permanent Secretary in three ministries namely the Ministry of Agriculture (December, 2010 – February, 2016), Office of Overseas Affairs and Investment (February 2016 – February 2017), and Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment (February 2017 – May, 2018).
Highlights of his career while in the Lagos State Civil Service include the development of the first computerized ‘farmers register’ (1996), development of the blue print for the Igboye Farm Settlement (2000), contribution to the development of a concept note for the National Special Programme for Food Security (2001), compilation of a comprehensive database of all government-controlled agricultural land (2002), development of the blueprint for the Ikorodu Fish Farm Estate and pioneered its development (2003), facilitating the introduction of a pensions trust fund for Directly Recruited Staff of LSADA (2007), working with the World Bank Nigeria Country Office to design and package the Commercial Agriculture Development Project (CADP) which is the first locally produced World Bank Intervention Project in Nigeria (2008), development of the blueprint for the Integrated Livestock Extension Programme to rejuvenate the livestock industry after the scourge of African Swine Fever and Bird flu (2008), supporting the Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor of Lagos State on Special Projects to design and establish the Agric Youth Empowerment Scheme (Agric-YES) for promotion of youth entrepreneurship (2009), introduction
of the Agric. Enterprise Estate Initiatives as a strategy to fast track the State’s Agricultural Development through the establishment of Erikorodo Poultry Estate/Poultry Processing Plant, Iyaafin Vegetable Estate, Gberigbe Pig Farm Estate and upgrading of Ayedoto Farm to a Settlement (2011), establishment of Lagos State Cooperative College, Agege for the training and development of Cooperative Societies in Lagos and environs (2012), establishment of Farm Service Centre, Agege (2012), facilitation of the establishment of the first state-owned Integrated Rice Processing Mill, Imota to encourage production of local rice and acquisition of agricultural land in other parts of the country (2012), establishment of AGRIC YES, Songhai Model, Badagry (2013), facilitation of the Sector Scan Analysis for the ranking of desirable business investments for Lagos business environment and the development of a pipeline for tracking progress of investments in the state (2016), facilitation of the development of Artisans Virtual Market for Lagos Artisans and Tradesmen and the production and launch of Artisans Compendium (2017).
Dr. Basorun earned an M.Sc. (Hons) degree in Agrochemistry and Soil Science and Ph.D. degree in Agriculture at the Dokuchaev Agricultural University, Kharkov, Ukraine. His professional affiliations include the Ukrainian Congress of Soil Scientists, Soil Science Society of Nigeria, Agricultural Society of Nigeria, Ibadan Socio-Economic Group, Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Environmental Toxicology, and the Nigerian Agribusiness Group (NABG).
